Interview with Ann Jones – Author of Missing

Hello and welcome Ann Jones!Ann Jones

Please, tell us a bit about you where are you from and other than writing what else do you enjoy?

I come from a small town in Eastern Washington where I grew up on a farm.  I love the outdoors and exploring.  Animals always have a special place in my heart!  Food, especially ice cream, is up there too lol!

How did you start writing? What was your inspiration to create?

My Mother had me interested in books since I was a little girl.  As I got older she introduced me to what I call criminal fiction.  Had me hooked on Randy Singer and Janet Evanovich.  I would like to have a clean read with suspense for Mom and others to read.

Who is your favorite author, is there anyone out there that inspires you?

Andy Andrews, Ralph Moody and so many more!  I like reading books that make me feel as if I have slipped into another world.

What genre do you enjoy reading? What’s your favorite book and why?

I like reading about everything except too graphic.  I like my imagination to work, not to be spoon fed.  My favorite book is Andy Andrews The Noticer Returns, his writing makes me “think” about life and what I might be missing.

How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?

I never had a clue how much it takes for people to publish and get readers to find our books. Also learned how much reviews mean to authors.

If you’ve published a series, what is the series about?

I haven’t published a series yet.  However, my first book is book one in the Lyn Kramer Mystery Series. I hope to have five to six books for the series when it is completed.

Have you ever thought about writing in a different genre? If you could, what genre would you like to dabble in?

I have actually been dabbling in Thriller and YA.  We will see if I actually publish them though 😊.

What has been your most proud moment as an author?

I like to hear when people enjoy reading Missing.  Just makes my heart soar!

Was there ever a time you wanted to pick up your laptop, and then launch it out the window with frustration?

Daily ha ha! I am trying to figure out how to get things to look like I want them across different devices.

Am I the only one who gets hung up on commas? Do they make you go blah! when you’re writing?

I get hung up on every punctuation mark, from commas to ellipses.

What three tips would you give any aspiring writer?

Read in your genre, ask other authors in your genre what most helped them most, and get a great editor!

What are you working on now? What will you release next?

I am hoping to have book two in the Lyn Kramer Mystery Series out soon.  I thought I would have already had Trapping published, but life made other plans while I was making plans 😊.

So… where can we get your books?

Right now I only have one book out, Missing, for free.  You can download at  Also if you would like more information and to see reviews on Missing go to

How would you define what being a successful writer means?

With fiction writing, to give readers a place to escape to.  A place where they can get immersed in a story.  I think success is when you have reached a goal you have set for yourself. Can be anything from writing a sentence to publishing a book.

Does a big ego help or hurt writers?

Both I would say.  Some people do well with big egos, others not so much.  I think it depends on the writer.

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

I read them all, even though I have a hard time figuring out Goodreads.  I have missed a couple, only to find them later.  Not everyone is going to like every book.  The bad reviews make me want to do better.  The good reviews make my whole world float in sunshine and smiles!

What was your hardest scene to write?

Romance.  I am just not there yet lol!

What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

I have the greatest group of friends, not just writers but readers.  All and I mean every single one.  Has helped me in so many ways.  From encouragement to helping me fix mistakes.  What a blessing!

How have your family and friends accepted your career as a writer? Are they supportive?

None of this would be possible without the support I have gotten from friends and family.  Every day I count my blessings!

Do you tend to base your characters on real people or are they totally from your imagination?

Imagination.  I am sure there are some people that influence characters though.

Where would you like to travel to and why?

I love to travel.  Is a passion of mine.  I have been to all fifty states in the USA.  At last count, I was around thirty-four countries visited.  Every country has so much to offer!  I have yet to be to a place I wouldn’t go back to!

Which one of your characters is your favorite and why?

Jud.  I just have this thing for him 😊.

What would you like readers to know?

Read as much as you can across a variety of genres.  Life is an adventure, smile often and laugh as much as you can!
