Laura Yates is a young woman of Boston society and has a very independent spirit. She resents being trotted out for the many suitors that her mother presents to her. She is determined to escape the high society life and decides to become a mail-order bride. Her adventure begins on a ship, where she develops a friendship with the other passengers as the ship goes through the Panama Canal and up the west coast to California. She is unaware that she is being pursued by a lowlife who is posing as a well-to-do member of society and is determined to marry her. Death, hunger, and scorpions are just some of the obstacles she must overcome to reach her new life. Will it be worth it; will she find the love she is looking for or will she be forced to marry the lowlife chasing her?
Good clean fun to read.
